Is it me but i find that there are very few paid jobs on this site?

Everything is TF. But we need money to buy kit, but nothing is offered. Then I have a car and petrol is expensive but then never get travel expenses. Am I wasting my time on this site?

With all due respect- why should i get real- this is a living, done my fair share of tf. Do you work for free all the time?  I have spent thousands on private education, products etc. So kindly be not so rude in saying get real. This is my living and gave up my career to follow my passion but sometimes people expect everything for free. So if you have nothing positive to say please do not say anything at all.

'A bonus to get paid' is not going to give you a wage. You should not sell yourself short when you have trained in this field of work. If you trained in another industry would you work for free for the rest of your life-no.

It would be nice to be appreciated as a make up artist and the reliability and professional service that some of us offer.

Well I think you have a point, to a point. I dont think its realistic to expect much/lots of paid work from forums, though I am sure some will get quite a bit.

While everyone wants/needs paid work, I am not sure that I would rely on forum sites to get work from but from other publicity, advertising and good old word of mouth.

I get 90% of my paid work from word of mouth, 10% through my website and just about all TF work through chat forums. While a steady flow of paid work is a good thing,I dont think anyone gets that from online forums?

Hi all

Just wanted to put my point across......

I have been doing this just over a year and all my shots have been on TF basis. This has made me a better tog and has also made a better model of those that I have pictured as they have gone on to better things. I have looked at it like this. One day I will become even better to the point of being a Pro and making this my preffered job. From that point on I will do very little TF shoots. I have payed out on a camera, lighting, utility costs for my studio and all I get back it the satisfaction of creating a great shot and, with the help of the model, a recommendation for others to come and model for me. If anything, thats all the payment the photographer can expect. This is all about working together and making the most of what you have. I understand from the models point of view, with all their costs, but in all fairness, NONE of us will get to the top without incurring some costs. We just have to decide how much we want to put into it.
Im always trying to promote and help the model in whatever way that I can, though in the big tough modelling world, they alot of the time wont even give me a look in. Sites like this and others give us all a chance to show our skills and what we can do, and that to me is pricless (Yes i know it sounds like that advert lol).

We all gotta help each other out in here and appreciate the sacrfices we all go through to make it further in this industry.....

take care all

P.S always looking for models to shoot......TF

I'm a believer in paying people for their time - and from experience if it's an important job I'd rather pay a MUA who I KNOW is going to do a good result then chance someone on a TF. Been bitten on that recently - saved £100 on a TF MUA but in effect wasted £400 on the rest of the shoot.....

That said, I do get good MUAs working for trade on tearsheet work or if they're looking to build their port. That saves me costs, which means I can do more, which benefits them too. That said, to be honest, my wallet is likely to go to a MUA who can also do hair (properly!). A MUA/Hair person is worth their weight in gold.

Personally, in selecting a MUA I go solely by word of mouth from other photographers I know that work in the same style. I find too many MUA ports - and for me yours falls in to this category - too theatrical. Lots of outrageous make up, glitter, false eyelashes and God knows what. I just want to know if you can do a good high quality job on more natural looks, yet few MUAs seem to put that in their port??!!! It's like a model only putting in pictures of head shots.

My make up involves alot of natural make up looks but I do not use them on here as alot of people want ott make up. I prefer making the best of out people and when I do natural I can guarantee I need little editing from the photographer.

I agree alot of make up and weird looks sometimes does not work for everyone but I get more work through showing those images I am afraid. Will put some natural ones on though and see the response.

Kind regards

Sorry to rock your boat Pinks but your make up is not up to photo standard. Also your avi seems to have a lot of blur and patchy. Also obscured the skin pores which would be the blur.
Eyebows on many of the images are to heavy and to squared of.

My make up is up to standard and I am confident in that and you are the first to say that. I would never be so critical. The eyebrows are meant to be squared of as it is the look at the moment used on the catwalks! It is the looks created for the models!

I am not on here to be given such negative comments. I do not know what you mean by blur and pores as that is the photographer who does the editing not me.

I have been given positive feedback from all my work and would kindly ask you to not be so rude. I could be critical back but I was brought up to be rude!

I was on this forum about TF but for some reason that is not what you have commented about.

Rgds, a very annoyed Make up Artist!

You did ask the question and I'm giving an answer. To get paid you have to produce higher quality or else practice on tf shots.

I'm an avid viewer of FTV and not come across those eyebrows as yet on the catwalk models. Also I've worked with on occasion with MUA's that have worked the London Fashion Week. Same applies eyebrows.

You will see those types of eyebrows but on shots with more effects on the make up and hair. Pop Magazine now called Love have those types of shots.

Beauty port will give you and idea as to makeup.

No i did not ask that question?  I am a make up artist and I get lots of paid work due to my high standard and professionalism! Maybe you are not upto date on fashion!  Having looked at your pictures I could comment over and over but I am not rising to your rudness I have also reported you for not constructive comments and been rude.

I do lots of bridal make up which is natural, I am not going to do heavy eyebrows on a natural make up shoot or a bride!

Think you must have to much time on your hands to read my forum. Kindly do not contact me again. Your comments have not upset me just annoyed me as I believe in myself. You obviously get a kick from been a bighead!!!

Please do not compare bridal make up with Photo make up. Like trying to compare a Timex watch to a Rolex.

"Kindly do not contact me again
" ! WTF when did I ever contact you. Have you been sniffing nail varnish.

Hang on a minute I am comparing make up looks, you do not give up do you. The link you gave me has loads of big eyebrows on!!!  When the client and photographer wants a glam look for boudior shoots etc I do what is asked of me. When I do TF I have more say.

Oh and that is a wonderful website, Member Image Member Image makes your pics look, well what can i say 'poor'...Get over yourself...I suggest you go back to photography school and learn how to take better pics!!! My rudeness has come out due to your constant nitpicking!

I'm still curious why your avi model is sooooo blured and looks like she has bruises on her nose and eyes.

Just so I do not get any more abuse- I have an unedited make up look on my port to show my make up skills. This is unedited. As i have had a rude photographer on here , he must think he is the simon cowell of the photography world! He is saying I am not good enough, but I have no say in editing images and on how much airbrushing goes into the images.
