I've just been offered a shoot with diesel models, terms being
I don't pay for anything, but they organise a stylist, a make up artist and a hairdresser at the bluerooms studios, and set a three hour shoot slot for me, where, if I'm pleased with the results I can buy photos and build my portfolio.
I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of these guys and if they're legitimate or not?

Please give me your opinions!

Hey,
I have also been offered a shoot with diesel models which i was going to do until i spoke to a mate that had done the shoot with them, she paid for her images around 400 pound in which most of the images had her head cut off in them which was of no use to her or anyone so i declined the offer.
This is only what i no of though overall they might be ok but this was enough to put me off.
Thanks Lana

Josie,

Essentially you'll get a really lovely set of photo's, they'll look exactly like every other model who has walked through the door and they'll cost you as Lana stated about £400....

You already have people on your thread that won't to do a shoot with you, you should work with them, me included, and save the £400 to travel to various different photographers in the country!!

Hiya!!

I had my portfolio done with Diesal models, now don't get me wrong they were fantastic.. They take you out in the streets etc and the hair hair and make was unbeileveable

They charged me £750 for all my pictures and it got me no work.. Have a look at a few on my profile..  They were telling me they were really excited for me.

They are not an actual place where they offer you work, they didn't tell me untill i had them all done that i had to pay for my portfolio.. They tell you to find your own work and go through them so they get a percentage o your wages you earn  :(

But its up to you, but be careful. They are wonderful people dont get me wrong.

Sami, £750! I think that is the highest I heard for a Diesel shoot.

Most agencies and photographers can spot Diesel Models portfolios a mile off, they feature the same sets and poses, colour balance is generally wrong and the work is very average.

For £750 you could of hired a top photographer for a day and a make-up artist and a studio.

Diesel are amongst an ever growing number of studios/agencies who are marketing themselves very hard to beginner models, they should all be treated with care.

Extract from a recent newspaper article. - other studios are featured.

Diesel Models
At their London studio I was told to allow three hours for Zak’s shoot but even after starting an hour late, it took just 20 minutes. "The rest of the time was used to hit me with hard sales tactics.
The salesman said I should really buy at least 16 snaps to have a proper portfolio. Then he told me the cost: A jaw-dropping £850 for 16 – and I have to buy today because otherwise they will be deleted.

“I asked if I could buy just one snap but I’m told model agencies will need more so there’s no point. Oh, and the Diesel bosses wouldn’t allow it anyway because the minimum spend is £350.
Live It later approached Diesel they said: “The model industry has more than its fair share of bogus agencies and scams. We refuse to participate in such practices.
We are not a modelling agency, we are a photographic studio. “We do not and will not find models or potential models work and we make our terms of business quite clear when we are engaged by our clients.”

Hi,

I had a shoot with Diesel Models,
I wasn't impressed atall, and the salesman was so irritating, all he kept going on about was how their images have been in this mag n that mag n it just got really boring.

The images were ok, but they said they were high quality but all they did was change the colours and lighting, which to be honest i could have done at home. Also the make-up artist was very rude.

Also they said it would take 3 hours, but it took bout 1. they said there would be a stylist, but there wasn't thats why they ask you to take your own clothes.

At the end of it, I was with my mum, and he showed us the images, and kept going on about how good they were, but not in a complimentary way, but in a kind of 'you should SO buy them' way. And it was quite obvious they were trying to get the money, because when he said about it being £800 for 16photos, My mum was like 'hell no', so he knocked down the price a bit more, and We still wouldn't have been able to afford it. so when we literally about to leave, he gave us an offer of £250 for the whole 85 onto CD! which was good. but i still recommend just going to a normal photographer! I don't intend to spend that much on a portfolio! i think it's ridiculous.

Trouble is they are quite happy to rip people off for that amount when half of the decent photographers on this website would charge a hell of a lot less....

i also had photos done with diesel models, at the bluerooms in london, i found all the people there were really nice, and i have to admit the photos werent amazing, with the quailty of the pictures. plus i ended up payin £800 for them,
i have done a few tfcd shoots with togs off this website and the photos have turned out much better, i would not recommed goin to diesel models they only want to get money out of you, and you could get them done so much cheapier, as i am now finding this out, but good luck

i signed up to diesel models late 1 night and by 11am the next day id had voicemails emails text meaasages and phone calss of loads of different people from diesel models syaing id been picked in the top 5 of 600 people for a free shoot in london. I was considering having the shoot a few month after the call as i could not afford the travel to london on a student pay. I then kept recieving calls saying the same thing over and over so i just began to egnore them as they sound desprate and id been told bad reports. I think they got the hint after a month or so of ringing me xxx

Girls please note there are at least another 3-4 a Agencies in London who are operating this way, have a look at the back drop on there site this will give you a clue to the quality of there work as they seem to stick to the same format,if you are not sure just post a message on the forum, I  don't understand why girls are falling for this scam.if you need a start with your port, just approach photographer on this site and ask them if they will consider doing test shots with you. Lee Collie.

Thanks everyone!
I have had a lot of hassle from them today, and just from that it's clear they're desperate and unprofessional, but thanks for warning me, I certainly won't go near them!

Hello

I have been to deisel models who I did buy their photos but they were not worth it.  Also the experience is not great.  they claim to offer advice and give you a step in the door but don't!

The figures they showed me of what people were paying were along the lines of £450 for 8 images and up (discounts for more).

I refused to buy any but didn't feel like I could leave with out buying any, I also believe myself to be a strong mind person in these situations. I ended up parting with £250 for all the images so if you do go and buy them bargin!

As for a 'stylist' it is someone who barely talks to you and does your hair and make up with out looking at your outfits.  Also there is no advice on outfits too.

I could go on forever but my advice is to work with local photograpers on a TC** basis.

They say this but they don't really use any 'models' that go in for portfolio's.  they get away with this because they say in small print ' we are not an agency'

Unfortunately, its true that they  ( only the blue rooms not diesel models) working with famous people, hugo boss, versace,
in magazines you can see, that shoots did  by THE BLUE ROOM studio or whatever. BUT i spent sooo much money too  and i am happy only about few pics, with dirty floor  and ect...Everyone knows now, i supose, that 8 pics u mast buy, regarding that they did make up for you and got "stylist"-photographer and you was using the studio time.
Perhaps for somebody was great time, great people and bla bla bla...and they dont mind that DIESEL MODELS offering nonsenses, manipulate person's feelings, dreams and gives info which is even more than half is lies...Perhaps for somebody its normal to pay sooo much money for shoot, which you can get from our lovely photographers in here..whatever...
love only make up artist, he was too proud him self, but i didnt mind, cause i was too confused whats going on, and i was pleased with make up anyway.

Remember how happy i was when they called to me and said so many things about me, comment  what "all" photographers says about me , and at least says I AM SELECTED, and they will help my dream to come true. Sick to remember..really sick...and blame myself.  Anyway Member Image   every cloud has a silver lining.
I am excited to create new ideas, work with photographers, pose in front of camera, i am happy doing it,  i do and i will do.. Diesel models, the blue room left marks but  good luck to them, and HUGE good luck to ALL YOU!!!!  Be careful.

My advice to girls who have been caught out like this is not to beat yourself up about it,they run a very slick operation with a good website ect which make them look a bonified operation, its best to move on and use photographer from this site who are accountable via the forum plus NP.Have a look at the photographer work on this site and there website and make the decision. I signed up with Diesel Models a while ago and they said they'd put me through the selection process for a photo shoot and get back to me by the end of the day. This was over a week ago and not only did they never get back to me, but they told me as an aside that the shoot would cost £400-600.

Actually, I'm pretty glad I haven't heard from them. My advice, there are lots of legitimate photographers on NP who will work TFP/TFCD... go to these guys instead. No model starting out has that much money!
