If I put up a TF request I get a lot of replies, I have recently been advertising £40 for a 1 hour shoot including 2 8" x 10" fully edited lab (not home printer) prints covering any genre and have had some response but very little.
Is it quite simply that you can get the images you want for free TF? Or is there something about my work that just puts you off?

It's certainly not your work that would put people off - you have some quality images in your port!

The price you're offering is good but as a comparison I know of someone local to me that is asking for £50 and in return you get a 2 hour shoot, with 10-15 edited web ready images on a CD...another I saw was offering a 3 hour shoot for the same amount but I think there were fewer edited images...

There are a lot of deals of this nature so maybe you need to see if there is anyone else offering something similar in your area and then price match or offer a 'extra' eg if you book so many weeks/month in advance you get additional edited images?  I not sure about the last bit was just throwing it out there as an example

Thanks Ellorae,  My reasoning is usually an hour is more than enough to get what I need. I seldom have shoots that last much longer than an hour really. I also offer the option of additional prints at near cost meaning another retouched 8" x 10" would be £7 ish
All images are always emailed at web resolutions to my clients anyway which they are free to use. Non purchased ones I am happy with just bear my name.

Don't get me wrong - I can completely understand your reasoning and the price that you're offering is by no means a bum deal, but it's also about appealing to what the client wants, a couple of hours sounds appealing and maybe allows for a model to explore the her creative depths eg maybe creating a storyboard style shoot as opposed to just a striking a few fashion poses.

It largely depends on what you as a photographer are interested in shooting and the market you're appealing to.  Again, your price isn't unreasonable - I just chucked in my two pence worth to give you some feedback on why it might be slow to get off the ground :)

I do see your point but factoring in print costs editing time etc it would work out at around £10 an hour, I think the guys pushing trolleys at Tesco get that :D

I have the same problem as you Chris, and I'm guessing you have more expensive equipment than mine as it shows in your photos (I know it's not about the gear ;), so if they're not paying you I should forget it lol

lol thats a lot more than what I have...my biggest problem is i don't have battery to do proper out doors shoots and i'm dying to get mobile strobes kit...as far as lenses i only got two at the moment a canon 17-55mm and the 50mm f1'8 which is a legendary lense but on my canon7d cropped sensor 1'6 makes me struggle with studio space to get a full shot which i can but not too comfortably-knees up-np...but that's the thing gear costs ALOT and models only have to pay for travel and some cloth every now and then..if they don't pay us how we suppose to get better/more gear!!!!

Nope, not on your nelly. I have £5 a pop old ebay ones that I really don't care about, they go out in hale rain and snow, in the sea hang off cliffs velcro to the side of my car and pretty much anything else I can think of doing to them. I once had an sb800 tip over into the sea lol, that was painfull :D

yep my speed lights cost £5 lol, I won't give away what they are I go as far as to actually paint out the names on my preferred ones as I work with a lot of other photographers. There are many old speedlights that have manual setting with adjustable power settings just look around.

My take on photography is its about your images not your equipment. If I want to spend £500 on something to make me look good I'll buy an Armani suit.
All the time I see photographers babying their kit, putting it to bed at night and reading it a story. Your equipment is a tool, it should be treated as such. The same way a plumber treats a wrench. if your scared to use it in anger you will miss the shot. Cameras in bags take lousy shots, no matter how much they cost  Member Image

I agree to a certain extend..good gear helps alot..I recently modified my lights from soft boxes to semi beauty dish (slightly closer towards beauty dishes than full on soft boxes) and I can see the difference of direct soft light and strongly defused lights and I got to admit...big big difference..I'm obsessed with lighting!! they are tools yes and it's how use them when it comes to angels/composition etc yes, but really for very high end looking fashion photos of models the better equipment you have the better the image will be..at the same time you can take a photo using a bedside lamp and the photo will look great but it will look better and more professional if the shadows on the face were coming from a defused light from a professional beauty dish...no?
so it is how use them but also it helps a lot if u got top or suitable gear
