A bit of fun for those of you who like home made lighting. How were the unusual catchlights created in this photo?!!....... (not post production - was a light)

Any other explanation is hard to come up with unless it’s a ring flash? Around the lens!

Ok...I'll put you out of your misery - I think Rob came closest.
It was a 5ft Octabox with a tin foil turkey roasting dish taped to the middle with masking tape. Seriously!! The World's largest beauty dish.
Just wish I had a photo of it now....

Why not use Mylar silver instead of the roasting dish, lighter in weight and can be cut into a circle etc
Only down side is that you buy from Hydroponics places, so you might go into local plod database as a cannabis grower, (if you are not on it already) :) It is also great for use as reflectors or mirror flooring

Yeah, it was just screwing around for the sake of it - changed over to a gorgeous Profoto beauty dish later in the day. But your idea sounds fun - I think people should experiment (with lighting, not drugs!), takes some of the mystique out of lighting.

I think i came closest :( :))I think for Brucie's bonus Chris, you had to get it was something taped in, hence the star/spoked shape. Good effort though :)

Hey Chris, Don't beat yourself up about it, I only got as close as I did because I have a beauty dish and know what they look like
I do however like the idea of doing that to an octobox
My main image was shot with the beauty dish

Don't get me wrong....but if it's a proper Octobox, with the head pointing away from the subject...I don't see what you would acheive lighting wise other than the distinctive highlight in the eyes...but then I am a little slow.
two thumbs up for experimenting....
