Once again I have booked Studland Bay House, a 19th C Manor House set in about 30 acres of landscaped grounds fronting the famous Studland Beach, Purbeck, Dorset at the start of the 'Jurassic Coast' World Heritage site.

Spring comes early to Studland and we can expect plenty of colour in the gardens, weather permitting. 

The House has been completely renovated and works have recently been completed, yet retains many of its original features including an oak panelled hall and staircase purloined from Netley Abbey, there are 8 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, Hall, 2 landings, 3 reception rooms and the cricket pavilion for indoor shoots. This allows 17 distinct shooting areas whatever the weather.
If the weather is fine there are balconies, terraces, gorgeous gardens overlooking the sea and glades, woods, streams and many features in the gardens as well as the beach.

Therefore I plan on no more than 12 photographers, each with an allowance of 2 models to share this wonderful venue for the day.

Make-Up-Artists, Stylists and Hairdressers are invited to attend on the basis that they 'set up shop' themselves and sell their services in whatever way they choose, the kitchen area is an excellent changing room and make-up area and will be out of bounds to photographers. Up to 6 MUAs have successfully worked in this space before with no problem. MUAs can make prior bookings and set tariffs to suit, there will be no charge for MUAs to attend.

The purpose of the day is to have a safe and enjoyable experience in beautiful surroundings with like-minded persons creating the best quality photographs we are capable of. These occasions are an excellent networking opportunity.

For those of you who have never attended a Studland Shoot before a few tips and pointers:

Bournemouth and Poole have thousands of hotel beds, some book both nights - Friday and Saturday, some book only 1, its up to you - feel free to use this thread to find others looking for rooms, I can make notes next to your names on the front page if it helps. 
Previous Shoots have ended up in raucous Saturday nights - this is to be encouraged!
Everyone has to be nice.
Models should bring as much as they can carry. If they have specific ideas they want to try to shoot then collaboration and swapping has always been a large part of the days fun but agreement and courtesy should be observed as much as possible.

From the East via Sandbanks chain ferry in Poole, cost is £3 each way per car. SBH is the 1st house on the left, just after the Knoll House Hotel

rules

I like to keep rules to a minimum. Please read them carefully before asking questions.

1. Photographers please register your interest. Both experienced and beginner photographers are invited to apply. Only post your interest on this forum - I will not be able to reply to personal mails - it takes too long!

2. I choose which photographers get to go, I'll post the list of successful applicants as we go.

3. Each successful photographer may bring 2 models. It is entirely up to you who these models are and how you renumerate them. There will be no vetting of models sponsored by photographers.

4. Make up artists are invited to apply to attend on the basis that you 'set up shop' and sell your skills. You will set your own tariffs. I will choose a maximum of 6 MUAs from those that express an interest.

5. Due to a few flakes on the last shoot payment must be received by the 24th March to secure a place. Anyone who has not placed a payment by this date will unfortunately lose their place and it will be re-offered.

6. Models are invited to express an interest on this thread, I will place all names on a list - this may assist photographers in choosing who they 'sponsor'. Please do not mail me directly, I cannot respond - it will take too long.

7. Rooms will not be allocated - I expect you to behave with politeness and consideration, not to 'hog' the best rooms and to make every effort to change location at least 3 times during the day to allow others access.

8. lottery - there will be no lottery at this event - with such a small group such an ice-breaker is probably not necessary

9. Photographers 'sponsored' models - whether TF* or paid, the agreements you have with your model(s) are your own affairs. Whilst swapping models is encouraged and adds greatly to the day its not a rule. However, slavery was abolished in this country a long time ago and you are expected to make fair and decent agreements.

10. Boorish, ill-mannered, argumentative or pushy people are not welcome and will be asked to leave with no hope of a refund.

11. Nudity - nudity is permitted in all areas of the house and grounds, except where it may be seen by others - ie, if there are people in the Huff Hauses I would ask that nudity is avoided directly in front of them - otherwise its fine and nudity is also permitted on the beach past the sign saying 'You may see nudists after this point', however, photography may be frowned upon in such a sensitive area and caution is strongly advised. I know this is pretty obvious - but after recent debacles at other venues it seems that common sense and respect cannot be assumed.

12. Mentoring - having invested in such a great location and a no doubt superb model some of you may feel that some kind of assistance would be helpful - maybe a more experienced photographer prepared to help you get the very best out of your equipment on the day on a one-one basis. Kenp successfully mentored StGeorge last year and on the understanding that any mentor does not indulge in his own photography I feel that it may be a valuable tool and therefore would like to allow further mentoring this year. I suggest that interested mentors either contact attending photographers directly or advertise their availability on this forum. Up to you. I think the numbers should be limited to 3 or 4, if its a success I may expand it on future events.


The cost will be £120 each photographer.

well - as far as lighting goes - there are plenty of power points and some of the rooms are lovely and bright anyway, most of what I shoot there is natural light. Do you need lights?

Well like you bring your own!! You improvise any way you can. I normally bring one or two small softboxes, but sometimes don't even get them out of the car.

This sounds brilliant, I'd have loved to have come along to this, but I have terrible eczema at the moment and it's really not a good look

Thats a shame Yasmin - sorry to hear that, must be a right pain in the derriere, no chance it will clear up in time?

OK - updated lists posted - a few photographers havent yet let me know who they are taking - but hopefully they have all secured models for the day.

Kyra mendez has offered her MUA skills, but as she is also modelling I dont thuink she will ber able to fit in more than 1 or 2 faces so if there are any stylists, MUAs or hairdressers interested the field is pretty clear.

The forecast seems good, I was at Studland yesterday and if Saturday is similar we are in for a treat.
