It is more about proportions than height, it just so happens tall models tend to have better proportions than shorter models as a whole. Though I agree you do not have to be over 5'7 it certainly helps.

Must be one of those NP bugs I found myself in China last week. I'm predicting I'll be in Cuba next week.

(NP Edit - To avoid confusion we believe this is a joke by the poster as no bugs of this nature have been reported. Furthermore China is not on our system and would be impossible to appear as a location)

Not forgetting China and the Google block.

It's rare that I'm serious but the times I am are for forums such as this 'I just don t know' posting by Chris Riccio.

i Agree to what she said
there are lots of models who dont have the require heights and its hurts when they are discriminated against

my advise is designers should atke into consideration about these models and its a good source of income coz now the shorter girls and guys are becoming too much so they tend to go for the small and extra small outfitts

even wen u go shopping these days, the exra small and small are always the first to finish

You don't have to be but it helps.  You are pretty and well proportioned and I would shoot you.  However, 99% of short models look exactly that.  Short.

Designers design for models that make their clothes look good and so they should.  The sizes that sell most quickly in shops has nothing to do with the art and beauty of clothes design.

There are plenty more women and girls who are overweight. Do you think that designers should include a range of smocks too?

But not forgetting the rather cute Nicole (of Nicole and Papa fame - a car advert for the renault clio that ran from 1991 to 1998) ie Estelle Skornik who was chosen by renault ad makers as she was quite petite and thus made the car appear larger and roomier than it actually is (allegedly)

So there are jobs out there for 'in proportion' shorter models...just not as many as for taller ones in the fashion world...

I agree totally and in addition to not discriminating against height I think there's an argument for not discriminating on the grounds of dress size.  I see a lot of casting calls that sound great until you realise that they only want you if you're a size 8 and over 5'7''.  If you're in proportion surely dress size (or height) shouldn't matter?

Dress size does matter though.  When a stylist styles, she doesn't or he doesn't want to be worrying about a lot of different sizes.  There is a standard for a reason.  It looks better and is easier if we stick to that standard.
Sure there are models who earn a living and are not "standard".  They are few and far between and not on catwalks or in fashion magazines though (or very rarely so).

I understand that it is easier to have a standard (no-one would want to design an outfit in four different sizes 'just in case') but why is it a standard that never seems to move with the national average for example?

I think there's a lot to be said for having curves in all the right places.

I think that the national average is moving in the wrong direction from a both aesthetic point of view and a health one.  I hope that the political correctness lobby get out of fashion and leave it to those who are in it for the beauty of it.

I must add that I am not saying short or girls over size 8 cannot be beautiful.

hear hear!
Its a tad harsh when models who are 5'7 are told they are too short (even if the height requirements are 5'8)
Whos really going to notice that inch when your in heels?
