Can anyone enlighten me here please.

I seam to spend and age getting sharp shots, run the RAW through CS3 and then at the last step the conversion to jpg produces a blurry mess. Member Image

Could anyone please assist as to how to get what I see on the monitor as a psd file be duplicated when transferred to jpg files for posting here please..........

Your images seem okay to me?

Are you resizing and saving to 72dpi and to dimensions that will not be squashed and distorted in the browser.

i save images 400x600@72dpi. quality 8

If you sharpen an image do it right at the end - I tend to tweak the levels rather than sharpen

I would prefer a lot more clarity.  This last step is a real anti climax.I need to explore the save to web option a little more I think as there is the option to preview.  Resolution has always been something I am not happy being more used to 300 on print.

I would be interested in your use of levels as to what you are looking for as I assume this is pre conversion.

Right you have your image ready to resize and save as a jpeg

Set your crop tool to desired dimension in my case 400 x 600 set resolution to 72

Crop the area you want

file save as *****.jpg
image options - quality 8

gives you a 60 - 90 kb file

regarding levels (it depends how sharp the image is initialy)

10 at each end as a rule of thumb so pull the black slider along to +5 to +10 and the white in to around 245 sometimes i can go as low as 220 depending on the image you could slide the whitepoint in the middle but as a rule its best left alone.

try it on a few images and see how it alters definition in the images.

Are you Windows or Mac Simon? I only ask because 72 dpi is the default res for mac monitors, but for Windows it's 96; I can't see why it should make a difference but it's the only thing I can think of that might be causing a problem. I've always followed the same rules as Nige (in fact I think I save at a lower quality level; usually 5 or 6) and the pics on my port are pin sharp, BUT I wouldn't try to print them at that res...

There is a technique for enlarging screen res photos to print size in Photoshop but it obviously doesn't replicate the quality of a print res jpeg.
