Hi,

As a relative new comer to PS, I was wondering what the general thoughts are on Bridge and any of the sharpening , noise etc in built or if this was generally discarded and applied later with Bridge being no more than a RAW converter with adjustments to exposure etc.

If the sharpening etc is not used would these be set at default values or turned off i.e at Zero

Any direction would be appreciated......

It would seam Bridge is missing from my set up.  Tried to open it and got some stupid error.....

The thought of going through uninstall and reinstall again is not an happy venture.....

Bridge as a bast' mate. there is no bridge uninstall re-install, its just installs as part of PS but if you reload ps bridge dont seem to reload/overinstall.

I had a problem with my bridge.exe getting corrupted during a PC crash. couldnt revive it so had to copy the .exe from another pc. now i cant update.

when i get 5 minutes i'll take a proper look & will hopefully sort it out.

Cheers

I had this problem when I first obtained CS4 and after much fiddly faddly, typical of a silver surfer, decided to call the PS help desk.
Effectively they identified two issues.
The first was that I had not uninstalled the older CS software prior to loading CS4. Even if it is an upgrade, evidently you still have to complete this action!
The second was that  in the set up process, I had checked the box indicating my desire not to work through Bridge. Im still trying to find that box!
End result a full uninstall and install - no more problems of this nature. This took me an hour and a half.
So give them a call - they are really helpful.
Big Nige - evidently Abobe have recently installed a protection code into their software which will prevent you from copying .exe, etc. from another computer to yours. Something about the confirmation numbers that you input on installing the whole software programme being missing from the bit you copied across. When you try to update, these numbers are missing and so Adobe will not allow the uodate. I believe that it it is aimed at the rogue element who use pirated copies.
What do I use it for? Everything, anything and nothing. It all depends on time frames, results that I wish to achieve and the learning process that one goes through when getting new stuff.
Authors like Nick Sullivan, Chris Weston and Simon Jonson have varied opinions on the merits of Bridge.
For me its like finding the cookie jar and the wife being at work. Now where did all those cookies go?!

Thanks John,

Can't say I remember what I did during the install, it took 3 goes to get it to work....

The PC is not at its best and overdue for a change.  When I install on the new one I shall look out for any options on Bridge.

I guess PS cannot be on more than one PC of your own??

I would say that you need a minimum of 3Gb of memory to ensure smooth running of PS. I only had 2 and it was like I was using hamsters to power it.
Loading on to different pc's is not a problem as long as you register it each time - just ensure that your registration details are exactly the same.
Abobe work on "the three strikes and you are out principle".
You can reload three times using the same key - after that you have to contact them to get another key. I did this twice when I had CS and my system kept crashing.
The new key must be used on the same day.
I have also found that storing my photos on an external hard drive has really taken the pressure off the computers memory Gb.
Have fun and enjoy the new pc.

'No more than a RAW converter'

It's the most important part of the process. I'm now tempted to dump 99% of my work as I've started from scratch understanding RAW.

As for sharpening this should be the very last thing of a work flow.

Agree with the memory issue - especially on a PC (rather than Mac) - x32 Windows is limited to 3.2gb max for Vista and 7 - XP only about 2.5gb.

I changed to x64 win 7 almost a year ago (beta testing) where memory limit is what you can cram in - with 6gb CS4 flies!!
